  23. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before
  24. buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you
  25. are expected to register. Individual programs differ on details --
  26. some request registration while others require it, some specify a
  27. maximum trial period. With registration, you get anything from the
  28. simple right to continue using the software to an updated program with
  29. printed manual.

  31. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and
  32. the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
  33. exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
  34. programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are of
  35. comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs and bad
  36. ones!) The main difference is in the method of distribution. The
  37. author specifically grants the right to copy and distribute the
  38. software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group. For
  39. example, some authors require written permission before a commercial
  40. disk vendor may copy their Shareware.

  42. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should
  43. find software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's
  44. commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs
  45. easier, because you can try before you buy. And because the overhead
  46. is low, prices are low also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back
  47. guarantee -- if you don't use the product, you don't pay for it.

  64. XPNS is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to the user
  65. for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your friends, but please do
  66. not give it away altered or as part of another system. The essence of
  67. "user-supported" software is to provide personal computer users with
  68. quality software without high prices, and yet to provide incentive for
  69. programmers to continue to develop new products. If you find this
  70. program useful and find that you are using XPNS and continue to use
  71. XPNS after a 30 day trial period, you must make a registration payment
  72. of $20.00 (U.S. dollars) to Treeless Software and Design. The $20
  73. registration fee will license one copy for use on any one computer at
  74. any one time.

  76. Commercial users of XPNS must register and pay for their copies of
  77. XPNS within 30 days of first use or their license is withdrawn. Site-
  78. License arrangements may be made by contacting Treeless Software and
  79. Design.

  81. Anyone distributing XPNS for any kind of remuneration must first
  82. contact Treeless Software and Design for authorization. This
  83. authorization will be automatically granted to distributors recognized
  84. by the (ASP) as adhering to its guidelines for shareware distributors,
  85. and such distributors may begin offering XPNS immediately (However
  86. Treeless Software and Design must still be advised so the distributor
  87. can be kept up-to-date with the latest version of XPNS.).

  89. You are encouraged to pass a copy of XPNS along to your friends for
  90. evaluation. Please encourage them to register their copy if they find
  91. that they can use it. All registered users will receive a copy of the
  92. latest version of the XPNS system.
